TikTok users have divided cocktail fans after adding parmesan cheese to their espresso martinis – but mixologists insist it’s ‘amazing’.
Jordan Hughes from Massachusetts took to his TikTok @highproofpreacher to try out the trend.
The social media star – who is a self-confessed cocktail fanatic – said: ‘A bartender friend of mine told me I had to make this espresso martini with parmesan cheese.’
‘He might just be trolling me but we’ll try anyway. Here’s some ice to cool the glass.
‘Got some fresh espresso from the local coffee shop with one ounce of coffee liqueur, now two ounces of vodka, a pinch of sea salt and shake.’
He continued: ‘Now I should garnish it with coffee beans and drink it like this, but instead we’re going to grate some Parmesan cheese over it.

The clip, which has received over 300,000 views, was met with mixed reviews
One wrote: ‘What?! I have to try it – it’s like a coffee cheese I’ve had in Europe.’
Another said: ‘I tried it and I can report back that it’s crazy enough to work! This is wonderful!.’
While someone else wrote: ‘This is easily the worst flavor combination I’ve ever seen in a drink.’
Abby Matthews, mixology expert and director of The Cocktail Co, told Metro: ‘The idea of adding Parmesan to an espresso martini may seem unusual at first.
‘But it’s a flavor combination you’re probably familiar with in many popular breakfast foods – take an egg and cheese omelet with a coffee, for example.

How to Make a Parmesan Espresso Martini
Ingredients (Serving 2):
100 ml of vodka
50 ml of freshly brewed espresso coffee
50 ml coffee liqueur
Cheese made in Parma
1. Place two martini glasses in the refrigerator to chill.
2. Place a handful of ice, vodka, espresso and coffee liqueur in a cocktail shaker
3. Shake until the outside of the cocktail shaker feels ice cold.
4. Grate parmesan shavings directly on top.

The practice of putting cheese in coffee is not a new concept – it originated with the Sami people of Scandinavian countries such as Finland, Norway and Sweden.
A North Scandinavian tradition, kafost, is a drink in which cheese cubes are left in a cup of coffee.
