A packed Delta Air Lines jet en route to New York made an emergency landing after a wing was damaged and the front nose cone punctured in freak hail moments after take-off in Italy.

Tracking data shows the Boeing 767 taking off, and then circling Milan before turning south and heading to Rome where it landed safely after flying through brutal hail.
