The Barbenheimer box office battle reaches new heights as Barbie’s domestic total climbs to $162 million while Oppenheimer earns $82 million in its first weekend of release.

After its July 21 release, Barbie beat its initial estimate of $155 million – its biggest opening weekend of the year with ticket sales, The Super Mario Bros. beat the movie which made $146 million.

The film also brought in $43.7 million on Sunday — down just 9 percent from Saturday’s take.

It’s the biggest debut ever for a film directed by a woman (Greta Gerwig), surpassing Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s 2019 blockbuster Captain Marvel ($153 million), Variety reports.

Oppenheimer grossed $82.4 million domestically – and added $98 million for a worldwide total of $180 million.

Acclaimed: Oppenheimer – starring Cillian Murphy – grossed $82.4 million domestically – and added $98 million for a worldwide total of $180 million

Jeff Goldstein, president of domestic distribution at Warner Bros., said: ‘This historic result reflects the intense heat, interest and enthusiasm for Barbie. This doll will have really long long legs.’

Barbie also took in $194.3 million worldwide – for a current worldwide total of $356.3 million.

In total, Barbie and Oppenheimer drew an estimated $465 million in ticket sales after their joint July 21 release date.

Barbie, starring Margot Robbie, is the second-highest opening of all time. Only Avengers: Endgame did better in 2019 with $357 million.

If the $465 million figure is correct, the Barbenheimer weekend becomes the biggest box office weekend of all time.

Previously, Avengers: Endgame held the record with $402 million in April 2019, followed by Avengers: Infinity Wars’ $314.8 million in April 2018 and Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ $313.2 million in December 2015.

In addition to Robbie and Gosling, Barbie also stars Kate McKinnon, America Ferrera, Will Ferrell, Simu Liu and Issa Rae.

In addition to Murphy, Oppenheimer also stars Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Rami Malek, Kenneth Branagh, Emily Blunt and Florence Pugh.
