Sadie Mauro has been identified as the victim of the Cape Cod boat accident Friday night. A multi-agency search effort was launched Friday night after the boat carrying six people on a jetty in Sessuit Harbor in Dennis capsized at about 9 p.m., and the teenager’s body was discovered about 11:30 p.m.
A seventeen-year-old girl who died after a boat crashed on a Cape Cod jetty has been named as lacrosse star Sadie Mauro.
The boat carrying six people capsized on a jetty in Sesuite Harbor in Dennis around 9 p.m. Friday, Massachusetts police said.
The teenager’s body was recovered from Cold Storage Beach at 11:30 p.m. following a multi-agency search, police said in a statement.
Injuries were reported and another juvenile, a male, was taken to hospital with head injuries.
Mauro’s principal at Sherborne High School in Dover described the young woman as ‘genuine and effortlessly kind’.

Mauro wrote on his recruiting page about his ambition to play lacrosse in college, saying: ‘I can’t wait to continue my athletic and academic career in college!’
A multi-agency search effort was launched on Friday night and the teenager’s body was recovered around 11:30 pm.
‘Sadie’s smile could light up a room, she had a heart of gold and the sweetest soul,’ Principal John Smith wrote in a letter to parents Saturday.
‘He had such a strong sense of self and a love of adventure and anything outdoors.
‘A diligent student and great athlete, Sadie was genuine and effortlessly kind,’ she added.
Mauro excelled in lacrosse as a midfielder, competing in the state championships last month.

The Coast Guard, State Environmental Police, Barnstable County Dive Team and Sandwich Fire Marines launched a joint search Friday evening after a missing man appeared after the crash.
A state police marine unit along with the Massachusetts Environmental Police Marine Asset and an underwater recovery unit conducted dive operations at the crash site Saturday in an attempt to recover debris from the boat.
According to the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office, a preliminary investigation indicated the vessel had two outboard 250-horsepower engines that carried an Alabama registration.

It is not yet known what caused the accident, or whether any charges will be filed in connection with the incident.
An assembly for middle and high school students will be held in the school library on Monday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Smith wrote in the letter to parents.
“Counseling team members will be available in addition to a crisis counselor from the Riverside Trauma Center and service dogs from the Dover and Sherborne Police Departments,” he wrote.
Dover-Sherborn Public Schools Superintendent Beth McCoy added: ‘The Dover-Sherborn community is strong and known for its strength and resilience in the face of unimaginable tragedy.
‘We will continue to support each other in the days and weeks ahead as we surround Sadie’s family, friends and loved ones with care and love. I’ll be hugging my kids extra tight this evening – I’m sure you will too’ she said.
