Greenacre triple-shooting victim targeted by gangland hit, clues emerge

The gangland shooting identified three victims in their 20s and in hospital

Three youths killed in gangland shooting have been identified Detectives are now working on the assumption that only one was targeted.

Ahmed Al-Azzam, 25, was shot multiple times, including in the head, as he sat in his silver Toyota on Mevic Street in Greenacre, south-west Sydney, at 2.15am on Sunday and is now fighting for his life.

Kashif Richards, 22, and Achiraya Jantharat, 19, who were in a separate vehicle 50 meters away, were also shot and rushed to hospital.

Mr Richards suffered neck injuries and remains in a critical condition while Ms Jantharat suffered back injuries and is in a stable condition.

As more bullets focused on Mr Al-Azzam’s car, investigators suspect Mr Al-Azzam was the hitman’s target, the Daily Telegraph reported.

But the motive remains a mystery as none of the three victims had a criminal record or any known links to organized crime rings.

Ahmed Al-Azzam, 25, was shot multiple times, including in the head, as he sat in his silver Toyota on Mevic Street in Greenacre, south-west Sydney, at 2.15am on Sunday and is now fighting for his life.

Because of the large number of bullets aimed at Mr. Al-Azzam’s car, investigators suspect that Mr. Al-Azzam was the hitman’s target.

NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Stuart Smith said: ‘A further shot was fired from a second vehicle which went through the body of the male driver and into the (female) victim.’

‘That’s all we know. We’re not going to speculate on anything else, but we’re throwing everything at it, the same way we always do.’

Police officers who arrived at the bloody scene and performed CPR are credited with saving the victims’ lives.

Just five minutes after the shooting at the brazen industrial estate, a BMW car was set on fire at the giveaway car in two suburbs of Regent’s Park.

The footage shows the car engulfed in flames completely destroyed with the car’s paint stripped and the frame turned an ashen grey.

About 20 investigators under the newly formed Strike Force Aplina are working to trace the culprits.

But opposition police spokesman Paul Toole slammed Police Minister Yasmin Catley for keeping the public in the dark about the current gang war plaguing Sydney’s streets.

In the past three years, 18 people have been shot dead in the Harbor City, and several others have narrowly escaped, including the latest three victims.

Kashif Richards, 22, and Achiraya Jantharat, 19, who were in a separate vehicle 50 meters away, were also shot and rushed to hospital.

“The minister needs to come out and tell us what steps he is taking to proactively support our police to give them the resources they need right now, to be able to deal with the shootings we are seeing across Sydney right now,” he said.

‘(All) shootings are not happening after dark, these are shootings taking place in public spaces in the middle of the day and the community deserves to feel safe.

‘The minister has a responsibility here to back up the police and tell us what’s going on.’

Detectives are asking anyone with information to come forward.
