The singer, best known for his Edelweiss recordings, died peacefully at his home, his family announced Friday.
His loved ones shared a statement on his Twitter account, confirming the sad news of his death and praising his ‘musical legacy’.
They wrote: ‘Sadly we have to share news we don’t want anyone to hear, we are so sorry to inform you that Vince has left us.
‘He passed away peacefully at home Vince created a musical legacy… his tunes will forever be in our hearts here’s to you V… you are a bloody legend xxx’

Another wrote: ‘Died at 89. One who has sung sweet songs for the last 70 years. That’s quite a legacy!’
A third added: ‘Thoughts of Vince’s friends and family. Vince left us an entire catalog of music to enjoy. TV themes, covers, collaborations and his own compositions. I’m glad I took Mum to see him live as he was one of her favourites.’
Vince’s close friend Les Dennis wrote: ‘Crying to hear the news about going home today. Did two summer seasons with Vince. He was brilliant on stage and more importantly he was a lovely person.
‘Remember visiting him and Annie at their beautiful home in Henley. They welcomed Dustin and I and we had a lovely evening. RIP X’
Singer Lynn Paul added: ‘Oh no! One of the nicest guys I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. RIP Vince. xx’
Radio DJ Tony Blackburn added: ‘Sad to hear singer Vince Hill passed away yesterday. We were at the same agency in the 60s and he was a very nice guy. He had a great voice and his version of Edelweiss in 1967 was a big hit. Rip Vince.’
He became a singer after winning a talent contest at the age of 15, but also worked as a baker, truck driver and miner before his success.
Vince’s hits include Look Around, The Rivers Run Dry, Daydream and Don’t Nobody Know My Name.
He topped the bill at the London Palladium in the 1970s and reached No. 2 in the Top 10 with his hit song Edelweiss.

Loss: The musician mourned the death of his wife Annie in 2016 and also lost his son Athol in an accident in 2014.

Athol was found dead hours after his car crashed on black ice. Paramedics were called but could not revive him.
The father-of-two was collected from the scene and taken to the home of his teenage daughter and her mother Liz Green in Henley-on-Thames.
Thirty-six hours later Mrs. Green tried to wake him but discovered that he had died.
