Yumi Stines, co-author of a sex education book aimed at young people with Sydney doctor Melissa Kang

Stines’ book, which he co-authored with Sydney doctor Melissa Kang, has been at the center of a furore since it was published in May.

The book was blasted this week by conservative organization Women’s Forum Australia chief executive Rachel Wong, who labeled it a ‘graphic sex guide for children’.

‘For those who say the book is sex education, there is a huge difference between giving children age-appropriate information and prematurely exposing them to graphic, highly sexualized material,’ Wang told SMH.

Big W’s staff pulled the book from its physical stores after receiving abuse from members of the public. It is still selling books online.

On Friday, Stynes called out Channel 10 for not giving him any work in recent years, blaming his absence from TV screens on an off-hand comment he made about war veteran Ben Roberts-Smith.

Stynes appeared on Channel 10’s The Project to discuss the response he has received from the book.

Some of those real-world consequences include me not being on television anymore,’ she claimed on The Project on Friday.

‘Because of the controversy surrounding a comment I made about Ben Roberts-Smith, Channel 10 has not offered me any paid work other than appearances on the show.

‘So the real world consequences? Yes. People threaten my life? Yes.

‘There was a man in the supermarket today. I was buying strawberries for my kids and I kept checking over my shoulder wondering if he was going to hit me in the back of the head – which is totally possible.’

Stines called out Channel 10 on Friday for refusing to provide his work in recent years

Stynes was hosting Channel 10’s now-cancelled show The Circle in 2012 when he commented on a photo of Roberts-Smith shirtless by a pool.

‘Hello! Look at that body! He’s going to dive under the pool and see if his brain is there,’ she said at the time.

Stines said Friday that he supported Big W’s decision to remove the book from stores.

‘No retail worker deserves to be in danger just to show up and do their minimum wage job, to be honest,’ he said.

“If it’s to keep retail workers safe, I support it.”

The book, which sells for $16, includes detailed explanations of sexual activities including oral sex, anal sex, masturbation, porn, sexuality and gender identity.

Despite the controversy, the book was an Amazon bestseller on Friday.
