A mother shot and killed her three children before turning the gun on herself after a three-hour standoff with police.

Brandi McCaslin, 39, was on a 10-month ‘supervised visit’ with her youngest son, Billy Jacobson, when a police officer spotted fireworks outside her address in Verdigris, Oklahoma.

Authorities confirmed that a lone officer went to investigate and called for back-up when they found McCaslin barricaded inside the home armed with a weapon.

He also shot and killed his 6-year-old son Bryce and 11-year-old daughter Noe in the Thursday night tragedy.

When officers entered the home, they found McCaslin and her three children dead, although her motive for the triple murder is unclear.

A memorial to the three children has been erected in front of the property, as neighbors pay tribute to the three children as ‘happy and normal children’.

Billy’s father claimed on social media that Brandi tried to ‘suicide’ in January and ‘tried to change her son’s name’ because she was ‘mad at me because I wasn’t coming back to him’.

A fundraiser received $215 of a $10,000 goal for Billy’s funeral expenses, which claims McCaslin found his son during a ‘supervised visit’.

Blake Forsman told 2News he would see McCaslin waiting for his kids at the bus stop and fixing his fence to keep their dog out of his garden.

He added: ‘They looked like normal kids. They’ll get off the bus, run in, cycle, normal kids.’

Another neighbour, Bill Salwachter, said: ‘I think it was around 3am, and there were a lot of police officers here.

‘I feel really sorry for those guys because they have to go through this.

‘The sad part is those kids had nothing to do with it. Now they are gone. Those children were the future of America.’

Authorities confirmed that the lone officer went to investigate and called for back-up when they found McCaslin barricaded inside the home armed with a weapon.

A spokesperson for the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said: ‘On the afternoon of July 20, 2023, officers from the Verdigris Police Department observed fireworks outside a home near East Dogwood Court and Cypress Street.

‘While investigating officers discovered an armed and barricaded female inside the residence.

Negotiations began as they worked to contact 39-year-old Brandi McCaslin. The stalemate continued for the next three hours.

‘Finding no response, officers entered the home where they found McCaslin dead inside with her three children.

‘One of the children was a ten-month-old, as well as a six- and an eleven-year-old. It was determined that McCaslin shot the three children and then turned the weapon on himself.

‘The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation was requested to assist in this case. OSBI agents will continue to work alongside the Verdigris Police Department as this investigation continues.’
