The acting world is in mourning after the death of actress Carlin Glynn at the age of 83 on Thursday.

His daughter – actress Mary Stewart Masterson – confirmed the news in an Instagram post, revealing that he was suffering from both dementia and cancer at the time of his death on July 13.

‘On Thursday, July 13th, my mother, Carlene Glynn Masterson, passed away. I was with him. I will always be grateful for those last moments, no matter how difficult,’ Mary began.

‘Death is like birth in a strange way. From my first breath to my last. This thread is as strong as it is fragile,’ added the Fried Green Tomatoes star.

‘He was the most pathetically clumsy person you’ll ever meet. Strong, smart, naive, intuitive, kind, generous, passionate and a keen listener. She was devoted to my father and to the large circle of students and associates who were considered her chosen family,’ continued Mary.

She shared a throwback snap of her mother, along with a stanza from Seamus Heaney’s poem, Clearance, and a recent photo, which she described.

‘The last picture is of her 80th birthday party, before the worst dementia and cancer took their toll,’ he said.

‘She never lost her sense of joy or wonder. The silly guy pictured with him is my favorite brother. Rest in peace, mom,’ he concluded.

Carlin Glynn was born in Cleveland, Ohio but grew up in Houston, Texas before moving to New York City to pursue her acting dreams.

She studied at The Actors Studio under legendary teachers Stella Adler and Win Handman, though she returned to Houston, where she met her future husband, playwright Peter Masterson.

After the wedding, they returned to New York so that Masterson could further his career, although Glynn left the business to raise their three children, Mary Stewart Masterson, Alexandra Masterson, and Peter Masterson, Jr.

After stumbling upon a Playboy article, Masterson began writing what would become the smash hit Texas’ Best Little Whorehouse with article writer Carol Hall.

He eventually coaxed his wife Carlin out of retirement, making his Broadway debut at age 39, playing Chicken Ranch madam Mona Stanley.

Sixteen: She played Molly Ringwald’s mother Brenda Baker in the 1984 classics Sixteen Candles, The Trip to Bountiful (directed by Peter Masterson) and Night Game.
