One dead in Sydney police shooting
A man has died after being tasered and shot during a confrontation with police during a welfare check.
Emergency services were called to a house in the inner-Sydney suburb of Glebe shortly before midnight on Wednesday night due to concerns for a man’s welfare.
Police allegedly encountered a 43-year-old man armed with a knife.
One officer used a Taser during the confrontation while another discharged a firearm.
Despite desperate efforts to revive him, the man died on the spot.
Police are at the scene Thursday morning.
A major incident team from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad will investigate all the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
The investigation will be subject to an independent review.
A report will be prepared for Corona.
