Eric Wong, a teacher at Camaregall High School, Sydney, jailed after taking photos up the schoolgirls’ skirts
The man pleaded guilty to filming without consent, and was sentenced to six months in prison
A former Sydney teacher who secretly filmed and photographed schoolgirls – only to be undone when a teenage girl knocked on a whiteboard and found her phone – has been jailed for at least six months.
Eric Wang, 29, pleaded guilty to two counts of filming a person’s private parts without consent.
His sentencing was delayed in May for a report on the possibility of autism spectrum disorder, which could affect his sentence.
Barrister Peter Giverschner told the local court the two eminent doctors agreed.
‘He needs treatment, and he’s not going to get it in jail,’ Mr Giverschner said on Wednesday.
But Wang can receive treatment after his release, Magistrate Aleksandar Mijović said.

He sentenced Wong to a total of 14 months in jail for at least six months.
The court was satisfied a prison term was the only appropriate punishment, with Mijović saying ‘the line has been well and truly crossed’.
‘You abused multiple victims’ trust and position of authority,’ he told Wang.
“These occurred within the confines of a school, where victims and families have a right to feel safe from any predatory or other behavior,” Mizovich said.
Although Wong may have autism with Asperger’s syndrome according to medical reports, he was also described as having above average intelligence.
‘You fully understood that this was completely inappropriate behaviour,’ Mijovic told Wang in Hornsby Local Court.
How the plot unraveled
The teacher violated his position of authority and trust, preying on the girls he taught by taking pictures of their pelvises and breasts and photographing them under their school uniforms in a ‘brazen, violent and opportunistic’ way, a court filing states.
A 16-year-old student, asked to stay behind after class to complete a survey, bumped into a smartboard at Camaregall High School on Sydney’s lower north shore and revealed a hidden phone strategically placed on film.
Police found photos and videos taken by Wang of the students

Wong immediately leaned over to pick up the phone, saying he had left it there before class, and changed the subject when the girl questioned him.
Police later found 90 videos and 300 photos of students in uniform, including ones in skirts and down shirts, when they searched his home.
Files were found on two computers, showing him ‘randomly walking around’ recording his classroom on his phone, targeting only girls.
He walks beside or behind them, and while supervising their schoolwork, takes pictures of their private parts under their school uniforms.
Some of the video shows him looking at the phone before repositioning it, which the magistrate said showed a degree of his offensive planning, which took place over a period of time.
Wong is eligible for parole in January 2024.
