Australia’s passport is known to be one of the strongest in the world – here are all the countries you can visit without a visa
Australians have the sixth most powerful passport Singapore citizens have visa-free access to 192 countries
According to recent data, citizens of Singapore officially have the most powerful passports in the world.
Henley and Partners released this quarter’s The Henley Passport Index, ranking the world’s passports based on the number of destinations a person can travel to without a visa.
Singapore tops the list with access to 192 countries, followed by Germany, Italy and Spain where passports allow residents to travel to 190 countries each without a visa.
A few countries rank equal third on the list with access to 189 overseas destinations, including France, Austria and Japan – once the strongest.
Australia was ranked sixth in the passport index. Australia can travel to 186 countries without a visa.

The United States, on the other hand, continued its now decade-long slide in the index, slipping two more places to eighth place with visa-free access to 184 countries.
The UK now ranks fourth in 2014 and the US jointly topped the index in 2014, but has been on a broadly downward trajectory since then.
The Passport Index, which is updated quarterly, is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association.
Italians hold the second most powerful passports (pictured Lake Como).
Afghanistan is at the bottom of the index, with a visa-free access score of just 27, followed by Iraq (29), and Syria (30) – three of the world’s weakest passports.
‘The general trend over the history of the 18-year ranking has been towards greater travel freedom, with the average destination travelers able to enter visa-free almost doubling from 58 in 2006 to 109 in 2023,’ Henley and colleagues say.
‘However, the gap in global mobility between the top and bottom of the index is now wider than ever, with top-ranked Singapore able to access 165 more destinations visa-free than Afghanistan.’
