Jill Biden hits a leg during a pick-up soccer match on the South Lawn while Joe makes a surprise appearance to take a selfie with the young players
The first lady hosted a youth soccer clinic at the White House for young players, who attended after suffering a leg injury from a soccer ball.
Jill Biden hurt her leg during a youth football clinic on the South Lawn Monday when President Joe Biden made a surprise pop-in appearance to greet the players.
The first lady was watching from the sidelines as the kids played a pick-up game when the ball bounced off her feet and right back into the action. He shrugged, smiled and did not seem to be hurt.
Biden, wearing a soccer jersey with FLOTUS 46 written on the back, held the ceremony to coincide with the MLS All-Star Game taking place at Audi Field in Washington on Wednesday.
The clinic is part of East Wing’s ‘continuing effort to highlight how sport unites us and supports and empowers young people’, according to East Wing.

The incident also comes as the White House prepares for the Women’s World Cup, which begins this week in Australia and New Zealand. Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff will lead the US delegation, but Jill Biden told passionate football fans she will be cheering from home.
‘When we work together to score that point, or cheer on our team, sport unites us across backgrounds and borders. There are no strangers in the stands or on the field,” Biden said.
Hundreds of pre-teens attended the clinic, engaged in drills and pick-up games.
It was a warm DC night but there was plenty of water, lemonade and goldfish snacks to keep the kids fed and hydrated.
Soccer stars Christian Benteke, Lucho Acosta, Kei Kamara, Jordan Morris, Hany Mukhtar, Walker Zimmerman, Ryan Hollingshead and Tim Parker were there to expertly help and answer the kids’ questions.
