‘I will put a moratorium on immigration,’ the new Georgia Republican told Newstimesuk.com in an interview. ‘I want to do it now until we secure the border.’
Collins, Democratic Rep. Yadira Caravaio, Colo. He was also the lead author of legislation that unanimously passed the House that would encourage research to combat the growing presence of the powerful animal sedative xylazine, also known as trunk.

Now the Senate will take up the bill with amendments before the House votes again to deliver it to the president’s desk.
The bill directs the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to conduct research on TRANOC and other novel synthetic drugs, develop new tests for detection, and establish partnerships with front-line entities that are often the first point of contact with new street drugs. .
“Because the border is open, it’s been a major source of drugs in our country for decades,” Collins said. ‘Now that marijuana is no longer a profitable commodity for the cartels to bring in, because America has legalized marijuana, they’ve moved on to harder stuff like opioids laced with fentanyl. And now they’re mixing other additives inside the fentanyl where Narcan isn’t effective.’
But the number of people trying to cross the border has dropped dramatically. The Department of Homeland Security issued a press release last month noting that the number of people trying to cross has dropped by more than 70 percent since the expiration of Title 42, the pandemic-era health rule that allows immediate deportation. This figure does not include those who evade border detection.
The Biden administration blamed it on their ‘execution’ of a plan to crack down on illegal pathways and block expanded pathways for legal immigration.
Collins isn’t buying it.
‘Title 42, that’s not the problem. The problem is that their borders are not secure.’
‘I think that no matter what they say, all you have to do is go down to the border and look for yourself,’ the congressman said.

The Drug and Enforcement Administration (DEA) has reported skyrocketing detection levels of xylazine. In the southern part of the country, detections doubled in 2020 and 2021.

Federal officials have unveiled a new strategy they hope will reduce xylazine-related overdose deaths by 15 percent by 2025.

Monthly overdose deaths involving xylazine increased from 12 in January 2019 to 188 in June 2022, the report said.

The drug is routinely mixed with fentanyl. Synthetic opioids other than methadone—primarily fentanyl—caused 70,601 overdose deaths in 2021, meaning TRANCO and fentanyl’s annual death toll is already nearly 71,000.
According to the DEA, in 2020, 808 drug overdoses were reported in which xylazine played a role. In 2021 this number will reach 3,089.
Some states already schedule the drug, meaning they classify it as having a ‘high potential for abuse or addiction,’ and the White House is considering scheduling the drug at the federal level.
This would make xylazine subject to the same regulatory restrictions as opioids and amphetamines.
Efforts to schedule the drug have faced pushback from veterinarians, farmers and others who routinely use the drug as an animal reliever.
