Ty Pennington has officially been released from the ICU after being hospitalized for an abscess that was ‘closing off my airway’ which he candidly revealed in an Instagram post he shared on Friday.
The former Extreme Makeover: Home Edition host, 58, made a special appearance at the Barbie premiere in Los Angeles on Sunday, but two days later, was rushed to the ER and ‘intubated’ because she was ‘barely breathing’.
In a detailed caption that included a photo of herself in a hospital bed, the star explained, ‘Turns out, the sore throat I had last month was actually an abscess that got so big it was blocking my airway.’
‘Next thing I know, I was rushed to the ICU in Denver,’ but added positively, ‘I had surgery on Wednesday and yesterday. [Thursday] I was discharged from the ICU in the afternoon.’
According to the Cleveland Clinic, ‘a peritonsillar abscess is a pus-filled pocket that forms near one of your tonsils’ and ‘can be serious, especially if it’s large enough to block your throat.’

Beginning her message to fans, Pennington wrote, ‘From the red carpet, to the ICU… this past week has been interesting!’ and added that he is ‘fine’ but ‘still recovering…’
She also explained that she ‘felt weird that I didn’t post about my team #BOTB VICTORY!!’ referring to her recent third season win on the HGTV real estate competition show titled ‘Battle on the Beach’.
‘To shed some light on why I’ve been MIA… Sunday I hit the red carpet for @barbiethemovie, Monday I flew to Colorado to start filming in Breckenridge and Tuesday morning I woke up at 4am and could barely breathe. .’
After opening up about what directly caused the health scare, Ty gave a special shout out to the healthcare workers who have been by his side every step of the way.
‘Thank you so much to all the amazing staff at St. Anthony’s in Lakewood, CO in Frisco and Summit Health for taking such good care of me,’ and offered some words of caution to her followers. ‘A great reminder to listen to your body when it’s telling you something.’
Social media users flocked to the comments section to send love and wishes to the TV personality on her road to recovery.
Fellow HGTV star, Sherry Holmes, typed, ‘Man!! Hope you are all well! Just goes to show how precious every day is ❤️.’
Another fan expressed, ‘Hope you’ve prevented this for many more who will now ask their doctors to check. I’m so glad to see you back on TV/HGTV. Heal well and fast! ❤️.’

Successful series: And it seems that luck was indeed on his side, and skyrocketed to stardom when he began hosting the hit series, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, from 2004 until the show ended its ninth season in 2012.
Ty is known for starring in hit shows like Trading Spaces, in which he worked as a carpenter from 2000 to 2003. However, after three years, she decided to quit the show.
Speaking to PEOPLE in February of this year, Pennington opened up about the decision. ‘I had to quit that job because I knew I was worth more than my salary,’ he admitted.
‘I made a really ballsy move, and I quit the best job I was offered because I was insulted,’ and added, ‘I’m lucky sometimes that something bad happens that actually happens. Bigger and better.’
Ty revealed, ‘You think it’s the end of the world, but it’s actually a whole new page turning into a chapter.’
And it turns out luck was indeed on her side as she took a further leap to stardom when she started hosting the hit series, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, from 2004 until the show ended its ninth season in 2012.

‘When you’re not home for more than seven or 10 days at a time, it’s really hard to have a positive relationship.’ But when he crossed paths with Merrell, he admitted, ‘I just knew I couldn’t let her go.’
