At least four people shot dead in Hampton Georgia Police are looking for an ‘active shooter’ they say is a man in his 50s who was last seen in a black 2017 GMC Arcadia with a tag number of DHF756
Police are searching for a man in his 50s after he shot and killed four people in Hampton, Georgia.
Authorities told WSBTV they are looking for a shooter in the area of McDonough Street.
They described the gunman as a black man in his mid-50s, five feet, 10 inches tall and wearing a dark shirt with a red tone and gray long pants.
He was last seen in a black 2017 GMC Arcadia with tag number DHF756.
Police helicopters flocked to the area and police swarmed the streets. Police say this remains an active shooter situation.
According to WSB-TV, the Fortson Public Library was on lockdown for several hours after a woman ran in and feared for her life around 11 a.m. There was no shooting inside the library.
A woman locked inside the library at the time told WSB-TV that employees called police when the woman ran to the back of the building.
‘Her cell phone was taken from her and she said she feared for her life. She ran to the back of the building and I guess someone from the library called 911,’ the woman told WSB-TV.
Police came and interviewed the woman before announcing the lockdown.
‘I noticed the police in front of the building and asked them if we were okay and if we needed to do anything,’ the women told reporters.
‘He told us there was a woman who feared for her life … and there was no way to call the police and they came and interviewed her and told us we would be on lockdown for a while. ,’ she added.
The woman said she felt safe inside the library and was asked to leave by staff around 1:15 p.m.
Heavily armed police and ambulances then cordoned off the area.
