The distraught mother of a New Mexico teenager – who gave birth to her son and dumped him in a bin – pleaded with police not to be ‘rough with him’ when he was arrested.
Alexi Trevizzo, 19, was arrested on May 10 and charged with first-degree murder, or alternatively abuse resulting in death of a child, and tampering with evidence.
Trevizo was taken to Artesia General Hospital on Jan. 27 with back pain before discovering she was in labor — though she maintains she had not had sex.
The 19-year-old secretly delivered her son, tossed him in a trash bag and claimed he was stillborn, when hospital staff discovered the dead newborn. He was later arrested in May.
New police bodycam footage reveals Trevizo was handcuffed outside his Artesia home as his mother demanded to see an arrest warrant before reluctantly letting him go.
Three officers were seen approaching the rural property where the 19-year-old was living with his family before knocking on the front door.

New police bodycam footage reveals the moment Treviso was handcuffed outside his Artesia home as his mother demanded to see his arrest warrant before reluctantly letting him go.
Alexi Trevizzo, 19, was arrested on May 10 and charged with first-degree murder, or alternatively abuse resulting in death of a child, and tampering with evidence.
Treviso’s mother is seen answering the door and quickly refusing entry to police officers standing on her porch, demanding to see an arrest warrant.
‘I’ll get him out, tell me what’s going on,’ he heard the officers ask.
‘He has a warrant for his arrest, I’ll give it to him when he comes out,’ said an officer.
‘Can I see it? It is my house I have the right to see the warrant,’ he claimed.
As the conversation progressed, Treviso’s mother became noticeably more frustrated with the police as they explained that because she was over 18, she had to consent to see the arrest warrant.
‘We have a search warrant for your house, we have a warrant for his arrest,’ an officer can be heard saying.
‘Can I see the warrant?’ Treviso’s mother repeated ‘she’s got a copy of it’ before a police officer explained, referring to the 19-year-old.

Trevizo’s mother started talking to someone on the phone before she finally gave in and took her daughter out to take custody of her before she saw the arrest warrant.
‘Can I go there if you take him there?’ Trevizo’s mother asked, becoming increasingly annoyed as the conversation continued.
Treviso’s mother began talking to someone on the phone, still asking to see the arrest warrant, before finally giving in and bringing her daughter out to take custody.
Moments before her daughter Trevizo’s mother went home, she begged officers not to be ‘rough’ with her as they took her away.
‘I’ll give him to you, but please don’t hurt him, please don’t touch him,’ she says, shaking her head.
Breaking down in tears, she added: ‘Please don’t be rough with her.’
Treviso’s mother then went home to retrieve her daughter, before officers took her away.
His mother explained that he was still bleeding and Trevizo was allowed to take some personal belongings before leaving the property in a police car.

As she got into the car, an officer was seen handcuffing the young mother before placing her inside the car.
The bodycam footage is part of a series of damning videos detailing the moments before and after Treviso dumped her newborn in a trash bag and it died.
Earlier, horrifying footage emerged of the moment nurses discovered Treviso’s dead son in a hospital trash bag.
Treviso maintains her innocence, claiming she did not know she was pregnant and that it was stillborn when she gave birth.
In the footage, Treviso is seen running to the bathroom inside New Mexico’s Artesia General Hospital in January.

Treviso was admitted to hospital with back pain but tests revealed she was pregnant and in labour.
The footage shows that more than 20 minutes after she left the bathroom, a cleaner is seen going to the toilet when staff say they discovered blood inside.
The cleaner then called over another member of staff and the two reached into a black trash bag before quickly backing away.
After realizing what they found, more members of staff are seen arriving at the scene to check the contents of the trash cans.
Five minutes after the discovery, the newborn is seen being comforted by two members of staff before being taken away by the cleaning staff who found it.
Policemen came to the hospital in no time.
Bodycam footage captured the moment a doctor told Treviso and his mother: ‘We found a dead baby in the bathroom.’
‘I was sad, it came out of me and I didn’t know what to do… I was just scared, it wasn’t crying or anything,’ explained Treviso.

Grabbing her hand, Treviso’s mother pleaded with her daughter: ‘What did you do?’
‘What did you do,’ the mother demanded and held her head in her hands in frustration, before the doctor told her to ‘stop now’.
‘The number one priority is she’s just had a baby, I don’t know if she’s delivered the placenta. She is bleeding significantly,’ said the doctor, before explaining that the teenager must be taken to an obstetrician.
‘I’m sorry about this, but with the delivery of the baby, it looks like you tried to hide it, so we’ll have to get the police involved,’ the doctor continued.
‘The baby has to be taken for an autopsy and there will be an investigator and everything.’
‘I’m sorry, but we need to do this properly and I want to be transparent with you about what our steps are going to be.’
‘Nothing was crying, it came out with nothing,’ repeated Treviso.
A male doctor in the room then asks the mother and daughter if they have any questions, to which Treviso’s mother asks how big the baby is.

‘It’s full term,’ responded the masked doctor.
‘What!’ She exclaimed that she did not know that her daughter was nine months pregnant before she was born.
‘Lexi, have you seen the news, what girls do to their kids and they go to jail,’ the mother asks with frustration.
A traumatized Treviso breaks down in tears and is then told that detectives are on their way to speak to him and that he is now being held in hospital in police custody.
At the beginning of the released body cam footage, a nurse told responding officers that Treviso had a positive pregnancy test but denied having sex.
Investigators said the child’s time of death was found and an autopsy in March listed the cause of death as homicide.
On May 10, police charged Trevizzo with first-degree murder, ‘or in the alternative’ causing death by willful abuse of a child, and one count of tampering with evidence.

Trevizo has since been released from jail on a $100,000 bond and will be able to finish the school year without an ankle monitor or house arrest while he awaits trial.

Gary C. Mitchell, an attorney for Treviso, previously told The Associated Press that his client has no criminal record and should not face murder charges.
He said there was ‘a huge discrepancy in what happened at the hospital’ and ‘this is not a classic case of child abuse.’
This is the second high-profile case in recent years in New Mexico of a mother and newborn baby dumped in a bin.
Jurors convicted 19-year-old Alexis Avila of dumping her newborn in an outdoor garbage receptacle in Hobbs, New Mexico in January 2020.
