Just Stop Oil takes to the streets again against German protesters who sparked a 40-hour gridlock

Just Stop Oil is shouting that the German protester, who caused a 40-hour gridlock while climbing the Dartford Crossing bridge, will be kicked out of the UK if he is freed from jail.

Marcus Decker, who has taken leave to stay in the UK, said he was ordered to be deported at first instance.

The 34-year-old and fellow campaigner Morgan Troland, 40, used ropes and other equipment to scale the 450ft bridge at Dartford Crossing last October.

Just Stop Oil’s stunt caused a 40-hour standoff as police were forced to close the crossing to traffic amid concerns for his and Troland’s safety.

They were sentenced to two years, seven months and three years in jail for the stunt.

Marcus Decker, one of the Just Stop Oil protesters who scaled the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge and caused gridlock for more than 40 hours, has revealed he faces deportation after his two-year prison sentence. He is pictured scaling the bridge last October

The group is holding another public march today to ‘demand the Home Office stop deporting peaceful protesters’.

It started at midday in Parliament Square and is making its way to the Home Office with Marcus, the speaker and his partner Holly Cullen-Davies, via telephone from prison.

A petition calling for Marcus’ right to stay in the UK has more than 79,000 signatures.

Just Stop Oil spokesperson, Indigo Rumballo, said: ‘We will send a clear message to the Home Secretary that the cowardly “double punishment” of peaceful people in civil resistance to stop government criminality and protect the lives of their families will not go. unchallenged

‘We are demanding that Marcus stays in the UK and not be deported at the end of his sentence so he can be with his family, friends and stepchildren.’

Writing for the Prospect in April, Decker said the climb was ‘a desperate last resort after we’d tried everything else for years’. He is pictured during the protest

Current law states that any foreign national will be automatically deported if they are sentenced to more than 12 months in prison.

Decker and Troland scaled the bridge last fall. They carried banners representing the campaign group Just Stop Oil, which campaigns for an end to fossil fuels, and organized dozens of other demonstrations, causing a major headache for motorists.

Decker gave up his career as a musician to focus on promoting full-time.

Writing for the Prospect in April, Decker said the climb was ‘a desperate last resort after we’ve spent years trying everything else.’

He added: ‘In mid-October, leaving my partner and her two children behind, I straddling a cable at 3am with my friend Morgan and climbed 250ft to the QE2 bridge, also known as the Dartford Crossing.

‘We were both trained as climbers and were safely secured when we pushed ourselves onto the bridge.

‘Once at the top, we laid a line across the four-lane motorway and hung a huge orange banner shouting just stop the oil.

‘To make it more newsworthy, we then set up our two hammocks and literally hung for a total of 37 hours, causing a gridlock after the police closed the bridge to traffic.’

He added: ‘We tried to be as loud and annoying as a fire alarm, impossible to ignore, to save people’s lives.’
