You are not in Kansas anymore! Dick Dons a Wizard of Oz-Inspired Suit to Grade, While Brandon Miller Wears Plaid and Victor Wembanyama Keeps It Cool at the 2023 NBA Draft
While others, like top pick Victor Wembanyama, took inspiration from Dorothy’s ruby slippers in the classic movie Graded Dick, they went with a more sophisticated approach. Newstimesuk.com provides all the latest international sports news.
The NBA Draft has become a place for potential future superstars to showcase their style – some have chosen some unusual ways to do it.
That was certainly the case in the run-up to this year’s NBA draft, where some of the world’s best young basketball players showed off their taste for fashion — some more vividly than others.
No. 1 overall pick Victor Wembanyama showed up in a forest green Louis Vuitton suit adorning his 7-foot-4 frame. ‘The color green, it looks like outer space, you know… like aliens. Green is a color I really like,’ said the French phenom, described by LeBron James as an ‘alien’.
Brandon Miller, who was taken as the second-best player in the class, gave a nod to his college — Alabama — with a red and charcoal gray plaid suit.
But no one drew more attention than Dick, a Kansas guard grad — who wore a jacket covered in ruby-colored sequins.

But some of the more vibrant suits were worn in the grade by Dick (L) and Jalen Hood-Schifino (R).
In one video, Dick gives a nod to The Wizard of Oz, saying, ‘I’m from Kansas.’ Dorothy has her little slippers and I’ve got my Dorothy suit.’
Dick wasn’t the only one to take a more bedazzled route with his choice of clothing.
Scoot Henderson, projected to be selected among the top-3 picks, walked in a jacket covered in silver detailing and multiple colored gemstones.
Henderson even decided to match the jewel-encrusted chain, a diamond-encrusted ring and a rainbow-colored grill on the teeth.
Other wild colors were worn by the likes of Indiana’s Jalen Hood-Schifino – who went with a green velvet number.
Baylor’s Keyonte George wore a patterned dress — looking like feathers — with a maroon accent color.
UCF’s Taylor Hendricks made a bold choice with an all-pink suit — but revealed his jacket was lined with multiple images.

Marquette’s O-Max Prosper (L) and UConn’s Jordan Hawkins (R) opt for a more refined option.
Twin brothers Amen (L) and Auser (R) Thompson wore identical colored suits.
There were some who went with more subtle choices in their draft-night attire.
Marquette’s Olivier-Maxence Prosper wore a simple purple suit while UConn’s Jordan Hawkins wore what looked like a navy smoking jacket.
The only brothers to be taken tonight – twins Amen Thompson and Auser Thompson – both wore suits in the same style, but different colours.
Amen went with a cream color and Ausser with a navy blue color.
