Kevin Costner’s estranged wife described how she first met the ‘handsome, charming movie star’ when she was just 18, and he was 37 in court documents obtained exclusively by Newstimesuk.com.
Christine Baumgartner has an effective account of the couple’s latest court filing in their divorce battle – in which she also reveals extensive details of their extraordinary life together.
Baumgartner also insisted that his hit show Yellowstone was not the reason for the split.
‘I avoided going public about the reasons for our divorce,’ she wrote. ‘I did it to protect our family’s privacy. I didn’t pressure Kevin to leave the Yellowstone show.
‘Kevin’s public attacks on me are damaging to our family. I believe they are to pressure me to leave without a temporary child support agreement.’

Baumgartner, 49, recalled the magical moment they met in 1992 in support of his bid for $248,000 in child support for the couple’s three teenagers.
Baumgartner wrote: ‘I met Kevin on the golf course at Alisal Ranch (an exclusive “dude” ranch in Solvang, California) when I was eighteen years old,’ she wrote in papers filed in Santa Barbara Superior Court, California.
‘We played our first round of golf six years later and started dating soon after.
‘Kevin was handsome, charming and a movie star. We traveled the world in private jets, stayed in luxury hotels and private homes.’
She also said she was the driving force behind the Field of Dreams star’s pursuit of her own dreams, writing: ‘During our marriage, I encouraged Kevin to wear many hats and live his dreams, even if it meant spending time away from our family.
‘I encouraged him to reconnect with his former bandmates from college and start a new band. He became a singer/songwriter and traveled to many countries for weeks at a time. He became an investor in a number of companies, some through my connections.’
She added: ‘Despite all of Kevin’s commitments, I made sure to keep him and the children as connected as possible. I never questioned that he took the time or commitment to do what he loved.’
Baumgartner also revealed in court documents obtained by Newstimesuk.com that Costner broke the news to their three children that their parents were divorcing via a 10-minute Zoom call.
The star of the hit TV drama Yellowstone called them from his hotel room in Las Vegas even though Christine begged him to let them talk to the couple to soften their blow together, he said in the new filing.
‘Kevin was handsome, charming and a movie star. We traveled the world in private jets, stayed in luxury hotels and private homes,’ he wrote
The couple married in September 2004. This was Costner’s second marriage, following his divorce from Cindy Silva in 1994.
The couple had a private wedding at his ranch in Aspen, Colorado
The handbag designer and former model said in a new document: ‘The welfare of the children has always been my highest priority and I was concerned that they would find out about the divorce before Kevin and I could tell them.
‘For me it was important that we tell the children individually and together. I explained this to Kevin and shared several articles about the importance of talking to children as a united front. I requested that we do this as soon as possible so that they do not hear from an outside source.’
But Baumgartner said Costner ignored her pleas regarding Grace, 13, Hayes, 14, and 16-year-old Kayden.
‘He ignored my offer to do what I thought was right based on the research and my relationship with the children.’ she wrote.
Instead, he insisted that they had the right to tell them we were divorcing “first” and to tell them privately “without me being present.”
‘After a 24-year relationship, from his hotel room in Las Vegas, Kevin told our three children that we were divorcing in a 10-minute Zoom call without me present. I’m still baffled by his motivation to do this with a very short zoom session.’
She said Costner, 68, was supposed to fly home five days later from Vegas where he was filming and questioned why he couldn’t wait.
Baumgartner’s filing for divorce was made public on May 2 by a representative for Costner, who also has three grown children from two previous relationships.
Costner claims he is now effectively ‘homeless’, complaining that his estranged wife refuses to leave the couple’s $145 million beach compound in Carpentaria, just south of Santa Barbara – saying she has to live under their pre-2004 nuptials. The estate also has a beach club.
But he also owns a sprawling 160-acre ranch six miles outside Aspen, Colorado, named Dunbar after his character in the 1990 film Dances With Wolves. It is worth at least $80 million, has 12 bedrooms and eight bathrooms, and can comfortably accommodate 27 people.
The former couple were pictured with their three children in LA in August 2019. Baumgartner also revealed in court documents obtained by Newstimesuk.com that Costner broke the news to their three children that their parents were divorcing via a 10-minute Zoom call.
The Oscar-winning actor said that under the terms of their prenuptial agreement, Christine had 30 days to move out of the home he owned after filing for divorce on May 1.
Baumgartner’s child support of $248,000 is ‘less than the amount necessary to maintain the lifestyle to which the children are accustomed,’ she wrote. He is demanding that they pay 100 percent of private schooling, extracurricular activities and healthcare. Both she and Costner want joint custody.
She wrote, ‘It is important not only to provide a warm and comfortable home for our children but also to teach them family values and gratitude.’ ‘I understand that guideline child support based on Kevin’s income in 2022 will be $152,681 per month.’
He insisted that the true number was higher. “The amount needed to maintain the children’s current lifestyle is $332,264 per month, which is 60% of our household expenses,” she wrote.
Costner said in court filings that his estranged wife refused to leave the Carpentaria home, even though she signed a 2004 prenuptial agreement promising to leave within 30 days if they separated.
‘Christine has taken the position that she will not move out of Kevin’s separate property residence until Kevin agrees to various financial demands,’ her own attorney wrote.
The court was told that he had already given Baumgartner $1 million to put him in a new place and gave the 19-year-old $200,000 in the first years of their marriage as a prenuptial agreement.
Newstimesuk.com spotted Costner’s estranged wife Christine Baumgartner walking into a lawyer’s office in Santa Barbara, California on Tuesday.
Baumgartner has hit back at her latest finding, alleging that Costner is trying to trick her into drowning her in cash and therefore waiving her right to challenge spousal support.
‘I have no personal income, and no assets in my personal name, other than the bank account that Kevin created when we were married over 18 years ago, and another account that held less than $50,000 before my marriage,’ she wrote.
‘I recently learned Kevin, without my knowledge or consent, deposited $1,000,000 into an account in my name several years ago, claiming it was paid pursuant to paragraph F.5.i of the prenuptial agreement.
‘Kevin is trying to force me to concede that the spousal support limitation is justified by my “recognition” of these funds.
‘I believe that Kevin’s goal is to get me to use this money, so he can argue that I have given up my right to challenge the prenuptial agreement. I cannot make this concession.’
In other papers, Costner asked the judge to seal the pre-nuptial agreement ‘in light of the confidentiality provisions.’
