Home invasion in Donvale: Man shot by masked intruders in Melbourne's east

Father shot dead in terrifying home invasion while his wife and daughters were at home – two masked gunmen on the loose

The man, 46, was shot by two masked and armed intruders

A father has been shot dead trying to stop two masked intruders from entering his home in the middle of the night while his wife and daughters cower in another room.

Police said two armed criminals tried to break into the home in Donvale, east of Melbourne, about 1.40am on Thursday.

A 46-year-old man was shot during the incident, while his wife and 16-year-old daughter were unharmed.

He was taken to hospital in stable condition with serious injuries.

Footage of the aftermath shows a bullet hole through the front door of the Donvale property.

A bullet also penetrated the cupboard at the entrance of the house.

Neighbor Ralph Lermont said he heard a ‘very loud’ explosion.

‘It was a very loud, piercing bang,’ he told 9News.

Mr Lermont said he heard another ‘bang’ about 15-20 seconds later.

More to come.
