'Stabbing' at London Middlesex Hospital: 'Two men stabbed during rampage'

Two men stabbed in London hospital rampage as armed police ‘knife-wielding’ and patients ‘hiding in secure rooms’

Armed police are currently at Central Middlesex Hospital in London

Two people have been stabbed, leaving one in a life-threatening condition, after a suspected knifeman was believed to have gone on a stabbing rampage at a London hospital.

Central Middlesex Hospital was put on lockdown this afternoon, with patients claiming to be holed up in secure rooms, after a major incident was declared following reports of stabbings.

After two people were found at the hospital with stab wounds, officers arrested the suspect outside the building. The unidentified suspect was also taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries that police said were ‘believed to be self-inflicted’.

Emergency services rushed to Acton Lane in west London at 1.13pm, with videos on Twitter showing police cars and ambulances at the scene.

The footage showed an armed officer rushing towards the hospital’s entrance, while a crowd of people stood outside, surrounded by blue-lit police cars.

One person wrote on social media: ‘I’m in the dialysis unit at Middlesex Central Hospital and we’re in a safe room.

‘Armed police are at the scene, in what is being described as a ‘major incident’.”

London Ambulance Service said it had so far ‘treated two people at the scene’ with paramedics still assisting as part of an ‘ongoing incident’. The London Air Ambulance also attended.

While a third said: ‘The whole area is on lockdown and they’ve evacuated as far as it’s safe and now there’s an ambulance and the police.’

London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust, which runs the hospital, tweeted: ‘There is an ongoing incident at Central Middlesex Hospital. Please obey any instructions given by the police.’

The hospital is located in the heart of the Park Royal business estate and is on the border between Brent and Ealing.

‘We sent a number of resources to the scene including incident response officers, an advanced paramedic, an ambulance crew, a doctor in a rapid response vehicle and members of our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART).

‘We have also sent London’s Air Ambulance. Our team has so far treated two people at the scene. The incident is still going on.’

Police officers said they would remain in hospital as further searches are carried out but ‘at this time they are satisfied no one else is being sought’.
