Ohio State tight end Jake Herbstreit has been hospitalized and is undergoing tests and monitoring from cardiologists.
The son of an ESPN analyst, Kirk – who is also a former Buckeye – revealed he had a ‘setback’ recently before reassuring those concerned he is on an upward trajectory.
Kirk Herbstreit released a statement on behalf of his son via his own Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon.
‘I’ve had a bit of a shock in the last few weeks. doesn’t feel right This past Friday ended with test results that forced me to be hospitalized.
‘I have some of the best cardiologists looking after me, and I am beyond grateful.

‘We are doing a number of tests and making a plan so that I can feel normal again.
‘I appreciate the overwhelming support over the past few days. I feel better and hope to be out of the hospital soon.’
Prior to the statement Kirk acknowledged the backlash from people expressing concern for his 6-foot-2 son.
‘I just wanted to add how much we appreciate the outreach to so many people concerned about his well-being,’ Kirk said. ‘He has a long journey ahead of him.’
In a follow-up tweet, Kirk urged people wishing to support his son to message him directly.

Herbstreet is one-third of the first three-generation family in Ohio State history.
Kirk Herbstreit played at Ohio State from 1989-1993 before joining ESPN in 1996, where he was the network’s lead college football analyst for two decades.
The younger Herbstreit is in his second season with Ohio State’s football program and is a walk-on tight end.
