Stunts where teenagers ‘surf’ on moving trains and get stuck in cars are part of a dangerous new trend
A daring teenager caught ‘surfing’ on a moving train caused major delays for passengers after a dangerous stunt brought services to a standstill.
The young man was filmed getting stuck in the back of a car as it left St Leonards station in Sydney’s north around 11pm on Friday.
Footage of the dangerous stunt that has gone viral on social media shows the teenager hanging just meters above the tracks behind the train.
The new trend of ‘surfing’ on public transport is spreading across the city, with other thrill-seekers attempting the same move on Sydney’s light rail.

Sydney Trains CEO Matt Longland said more than 11 people had died in incidents of ‘illegal trespassing’ around trains in the past five years.
Mr Longland told 9News, ‘All too often we see people’s lives being put at risk on live rail corridors.
‘All it takes is a train speeding up or braking or approaching infrastructure for someone to fall onto the tracks.’
Police and Transport NSW will work together in a joint effort to stop ‘buffer-riding’ by installing CCTV on rail corridors to catch trespassers.
Penalties can include fines of up to $5,500.
It comes after disturbing footage emerged of a joyrider risking their lives by standing between a moving light rail carriage on Sydney’s George Street in November.
The incident happened after a Joyrider was photographed standing on a small platform between light rail cars on Sydney’s George Street in November 2022 (pictured).
