The IRS whistleblower filed a formal complaint alleging that he was removed from the Hunter Biden tax investigation

An IRS agent working on a criminal tax investigation involving Hunter Biden said the DOJ passed him over for a promotion and removed him from the investigation to flag alleged favorable treatment of the president’s son.

The male agent, who has not been identified, filed a formal complaint on Monday that he claims was a victim of alleged unfair treatment for acting as a whistleblower.

His allegations come days after the Justice Department removed the entire team investigating Hunter Biden’s tax returns.

The removal is part of the latest indictment, and is alleged to be ‘retaliation against a whistleblower who alleged that her colleagues covered up the president’s son’s financial crimes.’

In late April, IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel told Congress that his agency would not retaliate against whistleblowers after agents complained about it.

An IRS agent working on a criminal tax investigation involving Hunter Biden says the DOJ passed him over for a promotion and removed him from the investigation to flag alleged favorable treatment of the president’s son.

Attorneys for the anonymous agent, Mark Little and Tristan Levitt, wrote a directed letter to Werfel on Saturday demanding an explanation of the move.

They wrote Warfel that after informing Congress, ‘the IRS has inexplicably decided to take additional retaliation against these special agents, apparently for making a protected disclosure directly to you. This is unacceptable and against the law, which expressly prohibits it.’

‘It was our understanding that although the IRS did retaliate, it did so on behalf of DOJ officials who were intended to retaliate because it was their right to act that was called into question by protected disclosures,’ they added.

Little and Levitt also noted that an agent overseeing their client emailed him Thursday expressing concerns about the Biden investigation.

They claim that Werfel’s office ‘alleged other agents with allegations of criminal conduct and appeared to intimidate anyone who might raise similar concerns.’

Attorneys demand the agency stop ‘intimidating’ whistleblowers.

The agent has previously come forward to protect whistleblowers while claiming politics are ‘unfairly infecting the decision’ in the investigation.

Little and Levitt also wrote to Congress asking why no one on either side had done anything to help or protect their client.

In a letter Monday to the heads of several House and Senate committee chairs, lawyers for the as-yet-unnamed agent claimed Washington ‘did nothing to protect our clients and other IRS employees.’ to face further retaliation.

They responded by filing a ‘prohibited personnel practice complaint’ with the US Office of Special Counsel.

Hunter’s business dealings have been under the microscope since a series of leaked emails raised suspicions that he was using his political connections to land lucrative consulting deals.

‘Today the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Criminal Supervisory Special Agent we represent was informed that he and his entire investigative team are being removed from an ongoing and sensitive investigation into a high-profile, controversial matter about which our client sought whistleblower disclosure. to Congress.

“He was informed that the change was at the request of the Department of Justice,” Little and Levitt wrote.

That whistleblower has not publicly identified Hunter as the subject of her coverup claims, but congressional sources have.

‘On April 27, 2023, IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel appeared before the House Committee on Ways and Means.

‘He testified: “I can say without hesitation that anyone who makes a complaint or calls the whistleblower hotline will not be retaliated against.”

‘However, this action is clearly retaliatory and could obstruct a congressional investigation,’ the lawyers said.

‘Our client has the right to disclose to Congress … He is protected from retaliatory worker actions by 5 USC § 2302 – including a “substantial change in duties, responsibilities, or working conditions” (which is obvious) to Congress because of his disclosure.

‘An attempt by a government official to prevent a federal employee from providing information to Congress is a direct violation of longstanding appropriations restrictions.

“Furthermore, 18 USC § 1505 makes it a crime to obstruct a congressional investigation,” Little and Levitt wrote.

‘We respectfully request that you give this matter your prompt attention. Removing experienced investigators who have worked on this case for years and now subject matter experts is exactly the kind of problem our client intended to blow the whistle on in the first place.’
