The band posted the update on their Instagram page announcing the cancellation of their May 29 show at Spartak Stadium in Moscow, Russia.

They noted that ‘this moment is not about stadium rock shows’ but they ‘feel confident that there will be a time and a place for us to come back in the future.’

Green Day wrote: ‘With heavy hearts, in light of current events we feel it necessary to cancel our upcoming show in Moscow at the Spartak Stadium. We are aware that this moment is not about a stadium rock show, it is much bigger than that.’

The iconic band consisting of Billie Joe Armstrong, Trey Cool and Mike Dirnt, added, ‘But we also know that rock and roll is forever and we feel confident that there will be a time and a place for us to come back in the future. Refunds are available at the time of purchase. Be safe.’

The group had hits such as Mr. Brightside, All These Things That I’ve Done and When You Were Young scheduled to play at the festival in Gorky Park.

Frontman Billie Joe hit the headlines after declaring ‘f**k America’ and claiming to ‘renounce his citizenship’ in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v Wade in June

In recent months, frontman Billie Joe made headlines after declaring ‘f**k America’ and claiming to ‘renounce his citizenship’ in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v Wade in June.

Armstrong announced during a concert in London, telling the audience: ‘There are too many fools in the world.’

He told the crowd that he was moving to the UK, a statement that was met with thunderous applause.

The American Idiot hitmaker has repeatedly used his music platform to protest and accuse politicians of injustice.

In a previous show, he performed in front of a backdrop that read ‘f**k Ted Cruz’ in an attempt to target the Texas GOP senator. He previously called out former President Donald Trump for ‘holding half the country hostage’ and devoted an entire album to criticizing former President George W. Bush and the Iraq War.

Armstrong, who has endorsed President Joe Biden, reportedly filed papers last year to run as a Republican in the 2024 presidential election.
